There is one ture religion. It is called Christianity. There is not one organization that can justly make claim they are the only Christians.

So let me get this straight
by TheICE ina web site called jehovah-witness.net where x-jw's and jw's who pretend to be jw's come to chat about how bad jehovah witnesses are and how they brain washed them etc, would it not be more productive to move on and forget than to let something most of you obviously hate take so much of your time and effort.. for some being a jw is about not being part of the world, what other religion is there that is as moral as a jw.
i am d'fed but i belive that jw's are the true religion.
sure some of them can be self righteous pricks but there imperfect just like anyone else,we all need to focus on us and not worry about what there doing because we can't change them.. .

Greg Stafford's New Book
by Defender inafter reading the first of three dissertations, i felt like posting some early comments for whatever they are worth.. in greg's first dissertation, i believe he has taken a courageous step in presenting solid soul-searching questions, especially for thinking jws who are seeing inconsistencies with some of the organization's procedural and doctrinal issues.
although it took me some time to grasp greg's writing style, i thought the first dissertation started off well.
he laid down the premises and provided insightful questions.

I have watched his debate with James White. Stafford did ok on some parts, but overall got hammered. It was quite funny to watch Stafford twist as he broke down and admited he is a Henotheist.

Bethel Speaker Calls GB "Ants" regarding generation teaching
by dismayed inthis video on youtube is pretty interesting.
the part i'm referring to is right at minute 9, where he calls out the "ants printing the watchtower" and says they never should have been dealing with generation.
so why do they keep talking about it?.

I see no need to every change 1914 because the 'new light' on the generation teaching gives an infinite time limit on the 'time of the end'. The reason for changing 1914, to me, would be because the rank and file would eventually question why the 1914 generation had passed. This is no longer a problem.

Only 37% of people raised as JW's stay JW's when adult.....
by My Struggle inthis comes from a religious study of several faiths which included jehovah's witnesses.
there is a ton of data in this research and there are several things that are very interesting about jw's especially when compared with other denominations/faiths.
you can do a basic search of the study here http://religions.pewforum.org/portraits .

It's based on 35,000 people and only 0.7% were JWs. That's only 245 JWs. I think that's kind of a small sampling and leaves a lot of room for statistical errors.
That is true, but is not a problem from a research standpoint. This would only increase the margin of error, but most likely would not effect the stat being significant or not. Further, I suspect that with the JW's having the lowest retention rate the variance would be at a significant level, even with a high error margin.

I wonder how different this stat would be if the JW's were more mainline and had youth groups or any type of special training for childern at the KH.

If You believe that Jesus is God....
by lurk3r ini know that everyone here is an individual with their own thoughts and beliefs, and i'm not starting this thread to debate whether or not jesus is god or not...but i am kinda curious about this.
thank you in advance for taking the time to consider this with/for me.. jesus christ instructed people on how to pray.
with the opening line of the lord's prayer he said (something to this effect) "our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name" (hope i got that right).

Are there any other places in the bible that may refer to Jesus as "Father"? Or any ways that are on the simple side, to help me understand this line of thinking? Another Friend of his descibed the trinity as 3 of the same thing, like ice, steam and water all being "different but the same".
This is a "Oneness" view of the Trinity and in orthodox christianity is viewed as heretical. This view of the trinity is also one of the least common held views of trinitarians.
The orthodox view is that Jesus is not the Father but is the same essence/nature. Jesus is one person of the trinity while being the same essence as the persons of the Holy Spirit and Father.

One thing that I was always curious about is how many born-ins leave the faith. Personally the vast majority of the born-ins that I knew left, including myself. So, I was not all that surprised to find that only 37% stay in, which happens to be the lowest retention rate of any of the studied religions/denominations. You can find that piece of data here, it is the next to last bullet point at the bottom of the page. http://religions.pewforum.org/reports/reports_1 which is also on pg 31 of the full report http://religions.pewforum.org/pdf/report-religious-landscape-study-full.pdf
For any researchers out there...I could not find there margin of error or if this was a statistically significant number. Oh well, still interesting :)
